Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:17 tells us; "And take the helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God". Too many Christians have grown up with the idea that the Sword of the Spirit is their Bible, when in fact the Sword is not a leather-bound book. We get a picture of this Sword in Revelation 1:16 when John saw the sharp two-edged Sword coming out of Jesus' mouth. The Sword is the spoken power of God as in when He spoke "Let there be light" or when Jesus said, "Lazarus come forth" and on another occasion " Your servant is healed". Through the Holy Spirit God has given us the anointing of His own Sword. We see an example of this in Acts 3 when Peter said to a crippled beggar. "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give to you. In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk". In that instant the shackles of infirmity were cut off by the Sword of the Spirit. Peter said, "What I have I give you". He didn't have a leather-bound book. Peter had the Sword of the Spirit and that same Sword is available to believers in Jesus today.
